QTW 17 - Installing QuickTime 2.0 for Windows (1-May-95)

Q We're having trouble installing QuickTime 2.0 for Windows. We downloaded QUICKT.ZIP from Compuserve, decompressed it, started the QuickTime SETUP.EXE, and chose local installation. After skipping the "delete existing Versions," the setup program stops with the following message:

"could not open the file named c:\Quickt\BIN\MCIQTW.DRV"
It seems that the BIN subdirectory was not created in our QUICKT folder when we decompressed the ZIP file. What do we have to do to get the Quicktime setup program to complete the installation?

A The ZIP file on CompuServe contains the entire QuickTime for Windows kit, so you have to use the -d option when you decompress the file to have the kit create the necessary subdirectories as part of the decompression process. The setup script assumes that the subdirectories exist, and since they weren't created during decompression, you get the 'directory does not exist' messages.

To install the software, you should place the entire kit on a freshly formatted diskette and install the kit on your hard disk by running SETUP.EXE from either the A or B drive. Before starting SETUP.EXE, ensure that you don't have a previous version of Quicktime for Windows on your hard disk.

To license the software for distribution, send an email request to the Applelink address, SW.LICENSE or call Apple's Software Licensing Department at 512/919-2645.
